Today, Saturday, the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in the New Valley Governorate launched the national campaign to vaccinate livestock against lumpy skin disease at the level of the five administrative centers of the governorate, through veterinary teams that roam villages and cities for a month.
Dr. Nagy Muhammad Awad, Director of the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in the New Valley, said that vaccines and immunization drugs were provided by the General Authority for Veterinary Services, in all veterinary units affiliated with the departments, and were disbursed to the vaccination teams to ensure their effectiveness and protect livestock, and we aim to vaccinate 65,000 cattle. and protection against lumpy skin disease, in light of the completion of vaccination of cattle against foot-and-mouth and Rift Valley fever.
It is worth noting that lumpy skin disease is a virus similar in genetic structure to sheep and goat pox. Lumpy skin disease affects cows, and is transmitted by mosquitoes or eating food and drink contaminated with the saliva of sick animals.
