Last year, a duck of the same weight was sold for Tk 280 to Tk 300. This official said that there are about 5 thousand duck farms in Sunamganj district.
People involved in the duck business say that the demand for duck meat and ducks in the city has increased tremendously in the last few years. This increasing trend started mainly from 2015. Supermarkets in big cities have also added a new dimension to the availability and sale of duck. Ducks are sold in these supershops after dressing them for cooking. Due to the less hassle of cutting, many people have become interested in buying ducks.
Supershop Mina Bazar Senior Manager (Supply Chain) Nurul Islam Prothom-aloK said, earlier, only duck or duck meat was available in the super shop in winter. Now sold all year round. But the most sales are during winter. He said that currently several hundred kg of duck meat is being sold in Meenabazar every day.
Not only ducks, duck eggs are also in high demand in the market. As the duck business grew, so did the egg market. Because duck eggs are easily available in the market compared to before.
