The Cairo Symphony Orchestra celebrates the famous Italian Dante, who is considered one of the greatest poets in history, during the concert conducted by Maestro Nader Abbasi, with the participation of violinist Salma Sorour, with the a cappella choir, led by Maya Givenria, at 8:00 pm, Saturday, January 21, on the Grand Theatre.
The program includes the first concerto for violin orchestra by Shostakovich and Dante’s symphony written by Franz List in the second half of the eighteenth century, inspired by the immortal poetic epic The Divine Comedy and played by himself for the first time in Dresden in November 1857, expressing its theme that deals with the journey to the other world with music.
It is noteworthy that Dante Alighieri is an Italian poet born in Florence in 1265 and is usually known by his first name. He wrote many poetic works, the most important of which was the epic poetic Divine Comedy, which includes three sections: Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise. Critics considered it the greatest literary statement produced by Europe during the Middle Ages and a masterpiece of literature. He died in Ravenna on September 14, 1321, after contracting malaria.
