A report by the British Ministry of Defense showed that the number of refugees who have crossed the English Channel since the beginning of this year has reached 18,000, after 337 refugees crossed the canal on Saturday in small inflatable boats.
According to the military intelligence report, reported by news sources on Sunday, “British defense officials believe that nine competing groups of
Organized crime is targeting Britain.”
The report states that “those groups smuggled 2,862 migrants en masse through the canal between 1 June and 12 July, many of whom obtained inflatable boats… About 1,075 people who crossed the canal were from Albania.”
The news sources pointed out that the new statistics come on the heels of a report in the British newspaper “Mail on Sunday” that claimed that many of those who crossed the canal in the past six weeks were economic migrants from Albania rather than refugees, based on a leaked military intelligence report.
However, charities supporting asylum seekers have refused to consider Albania a safe country even though it is not at war, and allegations that those crossing the English Channel are economic migrants.
