According to police and family sources, Sarufa Begum’s husband Mozammel Haque lives in Saudi Arabia. Sarufa Begum lives at home with her elderly mother-in-law, two sons and a daughter. He left the house at around 8 pm on Thursday to fetch water from a nearby tube well. At that moment, a man threw acid on him and ran away. After hearing her screams, mother-in-law and children came out of the house. At the same time, the people of the area came and took him to the hospital in an injured condition.
Sarufa Begum’s younger brother Jamal Hossain told Prothom Alo on his mobile phone from MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet on Friday morning that Sarufa Begum had acid on the left side of her mouth. Parts of the two lips and some places on the left side of the body were burnt. After treatment he is now healthy. However, it is difficult to speak. His niece Mozammel Haque has been in Saudi Arabia for 15 years. Last came home two years ago.
