An Israeli court has sentenced 6 Palestinian prisoners to 5 years in prison, for digging a tunnel under Gilboa prison.
This came according to a statement by the Prisoners’ Affairs Authority of the Palestine Liberation Organization.
The statement said that the Nazareth court issued a sentence of five years in prison and a fine of 5,000 shekels (1,500 dollars) against the prisoners Mahmoud, Muhammad al-Ardah, Ayham Kammaji, Yaqoub al-Qadri, Munadel Nafi’at and Zakaria al-Zubaidi.
The commission pointed out that the court added an 8-month suspended prison sentence for the five detainees.
On September 6, six Palestinian prisoners liberated themselves from the Israeli Gilboa prison, which was known to Palestinians as the “Great Escape”, through a tunnel dug from their cell, but they were re-arrested within two weeks.
The prisoners are Mahmoud and Muhammad al-Ardah, and Ayham Kammaji, Yaqoub al-Qadri, and Munahid Nafi`at, all of them from the Islamic Jihad Movement, in addition to the leader of the Fatah movement Zakaria al-Zubaidi.
