Haitham Abdel Basset, Deputy Head of the Butchers Division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, said that the prices of red meat have increased during the last period, by about 10%, with a value ranging between 10 and 15 pounds.
Abdel Basset added that the price of a kilo of candos ranges between 165 and 195 pounds, compared to 150 and 180 pounds, depending on the finality.
Abdel Basset pointed out that the prices of luxury items start from 190 pounds, which are filto, entrecote and cola.
Abdul Basit attributed the increase in meat prices as a result of the rise in the price of existing livestock, as the price of a kilo of existing beef rose to 75 pounds per kilo, compared to 65 pounds last year, and the price of a kilo of existing lamb increased to 85 pounds, compared to 72 pounds last year.
Abdul Basit explained that the reason behind the rise in the price of the existing livestock is the high prices of fodder and the lack of supply.
Abdul Basit said that the meat market is still witnessing a state of calm in the movement of buying and selling, expecting an increase in turnout with the approach of Eid al-Adha.
