Ali Farag, ranked second in the world, won the world squash championship for the third time in his history, after defeating Muhammad Al-Shorbagy, ranked third in the world, in the final.
This is the third title for Ali Farag during his career in the Men’s Singles World Squash Championship.
Ali Farag had won the World Squash Championship title in the 2020-2021 edition at the expense of Al-Shorbagy, to repeat what he did last year again this year and be able to maintain his title at the expense of his compatriot Mohamed Al-Shorbagy.
Thus, Ali Farag equals his compatriot Ramy Ashour, who won the championship 3 times before, and one title separates him from the equation of Amr Shabana, who won the championship 4 times before.
Ali Farag, the defending champion, defeated Mohamed El-Shorbagy in the final of the tournament, which was held at the Museum of Civilizations in Egypt, 3-2, in matches that extended to 74 minutes.
Muhammad Al-Shorbagy advanced in the first half with a score of 11-9, then Ali Farag equalized the result after winning the second half with a score of 11-8, but Al-Shorbagy advanced again in the match and settled the third set in his favour, 11-7n, to advance the match 2-1.
Then Ali Farag, ranked second in the world, equalized the result after winning the fourth set with a score of 11-9, before deciding the match in his favour, after winning the fifth set with a score of 11-2, to end the match in his favour.
