Masrawy:
Actress Hoda Sultan presented the mother’s character in numerous films and dramas, and won the award for best Egyptian actress for the character “Umm Hassan” in the series “Arabesque”.
The late artist embodied the character of a mother who gives a generous gift, without waiting in return, that is, she presented the model of “absolute motherhood”.
And she took on a challenge in presenting the character of the mother in the trilogy of Nobel writer, Naguib Mahfouz, after the success of the artist Amal Zayed in presenting the character of “The Six Amina” in cinematography in my films, “Qasr Al-Shawq” 1966, and “Between Al-Qasrain” 1962.
“Sultan” presented the character “Sit Amina” dramatically in the trilogy “Bain Al-Qasrain” 1987, “Qasr Al-Shawq” 1988, and admitted in her interview to “Al-Ahram” newspaper in 1989, that she did not say ingenuity in presenting the character of the mother about the artist Amal Zayed, she said, “The comparison is fair to me.” Although the artist who presented the original role ably presented it, so I am not afraid to compare, because each artist has his own tools.
Despite her remarkable success in mastering the mother’s characters, actress Hoda Sultan preferred to present it in dramas, and hated presenting it in cinemas, and explained the reasons in her dialogue with “Al-Musawwar” magazine in 1998, and said, that writing the character to present it dramatic is “served” well, and in the body of the drama, Especially since the mother is a rich dramatic character, who can be greatly benefited from.
She also believed that the mother’s role when presented on television is positive, which was what motivated her to present it, but in the cinema she rejected and hated it because it was presented in a “marginal” way, and lacks the luster that television gives it.
Hoda Sultan did not stipulate that the character be given a large artistic space in the dramatic work, but considered what she presents through it to be the most important. She said, “The space of the role did not concern me, and I presented the character of Umm Hassan in the Arabesque series, despite the shortness of its area, and I won the award for the best Egyptian actress.”
