The General Division of Digital Economy and Technology of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce will hold a workshop via the Zoom application on the decision on the shelf life of goods, next Wednesday.
According to the division’s statement today, Monday, the workshop will be attended by Dr. Ahmed Samir Farag, acting head of the Consumer Protection Agency and its former CEO.
Eng. Khalil Hassan Khalil, Head of the General Division for Digital Economy and Technology, said that the main objective of the workshop is to raise awareness and educate the business community about the new decisions of the Egyptian government regarding the shelf life of goods.
As of next May, the Consumer Protection Agency will implement its decision No. 1/4 of 2022 regarding the life span of goods, which aims to preserve consumer rights, ensure a good commodity and after-sales service, according to the statement.
The shelf life of the commodity or device, according to the Consumer Protection Resolution, is the obligation of the supplier to provide spare parts and service centers for the product, while the warranty is the period during which the supplier bears the defects of the device at his expense, if it has manufacturing defects.
Ayman Hossam El-Din, head of the Consumer Protection Agency, said that the quality standard of products comes from their lifespan, and therefore there are companies in the Egyptian market that guarantee their products for life, given the manufacturer’s knowledge of the quality of the components produced, and the extent of their tolerance for use, and stressed that writing the life span on the commodity has become a necessity. , such as writing the warranty period and not declaring the shelf life of the commodity is considered deceptive behavior that is punishable by law with a fine of up to 2 million pounds or the maximum value of the product.
