Dinajpur’s heroic freedom fighter and former mayor Shafiqul Haque alias Chutu did not take the state honorarium money given to the heroic freedom fighters who took part in the great liberation war. He has informed his family members that he does not want to receive state honors even after his death. As a reason, he says, ‘Many people who did not come close to the liberation war have become freedom fighters and are getting state honors. But I fought for my life, I lost my father in the war, I lost my brother. I don’t want to lose myself in the crowd of non-freedom fighters. My protest is not to accept allowances or state honors.
