The Home Minister said, ‘Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians have all given blood in the war of liberation. 16,000 Indian soldiers have also sacrificed for this country. A Christian priest (Father Evans) has been martyred at Kalakupa in Nawabganj. That is why not only Muslim blood has been shed in this country. Today’s celebration of Victory Day, as a freedom fighter, I think, could not be a greater honor.
Secretary General of the Bangladesh Catholic Bishops’ Conference (CBCB) Bishop Panen Paul Kubi CSC gave the introductory speech at the beginning of the program. Cardinal Patrick D’Rosario CSC was present as the Guest of Honor in the presidency of Archbishop Vijay N. D’Cruz of Dhaka Mahadharmapradesh.
Also present as guests were State Minister for Religion Faridul Haque Khan, MP Jewel Areng, Bishop of eight Catholic denominations including Jharna Gloria Sarkar. Representatives of Christian churches from different regions and members of the Christian community attended the event.
