Misr Aluminum Company – affiliated to the public business sector – revealed details of a malfunction in the hot rolling line as a result of a fire, noting that the production process was not affected.
The company said in a statement that Masrawy received a copy of it, that “at exactly 11.10 am on Tuesday, 7/9/2021, a technical failure occurred in the hot rolling line at the rolling factory at the Misr Aluminum Complex, and due to the nature of the production process at the rolling factory, especially the hot rolling line. – Where aluminum slabs are rolled at temperatures up to more than 500 degrees Celsius inside the furnaces, and coolant fluids and oils are used extensively in aluminum slab rolling machines to produce coils and plates of different thicknesses – a fire broke out in the hot rolling line and the fire was dealt with by a special self-extinguishing system At the rolling factory, with the help of fire trucks at the Misr Aluminum Company, and fire trucks at the Civil Protection in Nagaa Hammadi.
She added that the fire was successfully controlled, and there were no serious injuries or deaths to any of the workers, and only a worker was subjected to minor suffocation and was given first aid immediately and is in good health.
The statement indicated that the necessary cooling operations are underway for the production line, raising the effects of the fire, and repairing the effects of the accident to restart the hot rolling line.

Ahmed Salem, the executive managing director of the company, issued a decision to form an urgent committee to determine the initial causes of the accident and the extent of the losses, to prepare a technical report urgently, and assign the company’s legal advisor to cooperate with the competent authorities to determine the fire losses, emphasizing that preliminary investigations are still underway to reach the causes of the fire.
Misr Aluminum Company confirms that the fire will not affect the production process, as the company’s various sectors are working normally, and that the fire occurred in one of the semi-finished metal forming lines that roll aluminum slabs previously cast and formed by foundries, according to the statement.
It is noteworthy that the rolling mill of the Misr Aluminum Company is one of the sectors of forming the semi-finished product of aluminum and production began in 1995 with French expertise and equipment. Its production capacity is more than 85 thousand tons of various rolls annually.
