Certain types of food can cause stomach pain, gas, and bloating, which can take a toll on our mental and physical health.
So, we review some common foods that can cause stomach pain, according to the “boldsky” website.
1. Raw vegetables:
Eating raw vegetables such as: artichokes, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, and peppers can cause stomach pain and intestinal problems.
Tomatoes increase acid production in your stomach while reducing pressure in the lower esophageal sphincter (a muscle that keeps food moving in the right direction at the end of the esophagus), which also leads to heartburn.
2. High-fiber foods:
Foods rich in fiber are healthy but should be consumed in limited quantities only, because excess fiber can lead to stomach pain and bloating, so try to avoid foods rich in fiber right before exercise, as this can lead to intestinal problems or stomach cramps during exercise. Some foods rich in fiber include legumes, nuts, fruits like bananas, apples, etc.
3. Chewing gum:
Studies show that chewing gum frequently can cause stomach problems and even lead to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and chewing gum can cause the airways to swallow, which can cause abdominal pain and bloating, and it also contains artificial sweeteners. May lead to stomach pain.
4. Dairy products:
Dairy products (not fermented) can irritate the stomach and cause abdominal pain, mainly due to the presence of lactose, a type of sugar that is broken down in your body into energy by an enzyme called lactase. If an individual lacks lactase, dairy products will cause large gases and bloating. In addition, many types of cow’s milk contain hormones that can irritate the stomach linings.
5. Soft drinks:
Soft drinks can lead to stomach problems, as bubbles can create air in our stomach and lead to gas.
6. Alcohol:
Alcohol when ingested passes through the digestive system quickly and can cause stomach pain, nausea, and abnormal bowel movements, such as diarrhea. Additionally, alcohol is low in nutrients and can cause inflammation in the intestines, leading to feelings of discomfort and bloating.
7. Spicy foods:
Eating spicy foods in large quantities irritates the lining of the esophagus and stomach, which in turn increases acid production in your stomach, while at the same time reducing pressure in the lower esophageal sphincter, which leads to an upset stomach. Some common stomach-related problems caused by spicy foods are inflammation. stomach and stomach ulcers;
8. Butter:
Too much butter can affect the gut microbiome and cause stomach pain, so you can use olive oil or coconut oil when cooking in place of butter.
