Today, Monday, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) held the first ministerial round table meeting on energy, climate and sustainable development – via video conferencing – with the participation of ministers, senior officials, high-level policy and decision-makers and industry experts from OPEC member countries and oil-producing countries from abroad, as well as many other international organizations.
The organization stated – in a statement today – that the meeting confirmed that energy has a key role in contributing to achieving the sustainable development goals, especially the seventh goal of the development goals set by the United Nations and the international community.
The statement considered that climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time and that its impact is felt by both developed and developing countries and affects people anywhere, noting the need for a balanced, comprehensive and multilateral approach to enhance global efforts to achieve the goals related to climate change and sustainable development.
