The players of the Moroccan national football team and the technical staff left, this evening, Sunday, Guinea, after a horrific day, via a plane bound for Morocco, after the events that occurred today in the Guinean capital Conakry.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) issued a joint statement with the International Football Association (FIFA) regarding Guinea Conakry’s meeting with Morocco in the second round of World Cup qualifiers (Qatar 2020).
Both CAF and FIFA decided to postpone the Guinea Conakry match with Morocco against the background of the events that took place today in the Guinean capital, and accompanying the security and political situation in Guinea Conakry.
The statement issued on Sunday evening said: “To ensure the safety and security of all players and protect all match officials, FIFA and CAF have decided to postpone the Guinea vs Morocco 2022 World Cup qualifying match, which was scheduled to be hosted in Conakry, Guinea, on Monday 6 September.”
The Moroccan team won the first round against its Sudanese counterpart, and the second match was supposed to take place against Guinea after the team arrived in the country’s capital, but the events that occurred caused the intervention of FIFA and CAF to postpone the match.
The statement indicated that the new date for the match will be determined at a later time.
