The Italian national team strengthened its lead in the third group of European qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, by drawing with its Swiss host, during the match that brought them together today, Sunday, in the fifth round, which also witnessed Bulgaria’s victory over Lithuania 1-0.
Switzerland and Italy failed to take advantage of all the opportunities they had in front of the two goals, to get each of them a point.
The Italian team raised its score to 11 points at the top of the standings, and the Swiss team raised its score to seven points in second place.
With this tie, the Italian team avoided losing in 36 consecutive matches, breaking the record set by Brazil and Spain, who avoided losing in 35 consecutive matches.
In the second match, Bulgaria snatched a difficult victory over its guest, Lithuania, 1-0.
The Bulgarian national team owes this victory to Ivailo Shoshev, who scored the only goal of the match in the 82nd minute.
The match saw Bulgarian player Nikolai Mihalyov sent off in the 83rd minute.
Bulgaria raised its score to five points in third place, while Lithuania remained without points at the bottom of the standings.
