The German Heart Foundation reported that blood pressure is low if the measurement values are less than 110/60 mmHg in men and 100/60 in women.
The Foundation explained that low blood pressure has several causes, including genetics, hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, heart diseases such as heart failure and heart rhythm disorders, in addition to salt deficiency, and fluid deficiency caused by extreme heat, excessive sweating, severe diarrhea or frequent vomiting. Low blood pressure may also be a side effect of some medications, according to Al Bayan Al Emarat website.
Symptoms of low blood pressure are severe headache, fatigue, shortness of breath, cold skin, dizziness, excessive sweating, heart palpitations, vision disturbances, and may even faint.
Low blood pressure can be treated by eating salty foods and drinking a lot of fluids, and blood circulation can be stimulated through alternating baths (hot / cold), and exercise, especially endurance sports such as walking, swimming and cycling. In difficult cases, drug therapy is used.
