“Corona mutants” have become a nightmare that haunts people around the world, especially with the “Delta” and “Mo” strains, which WHO experts confirm are faster spreading and more dangerous than the original Corona virus.

In this regard, experts urged not to be lazy in applying precautionary measures, and the need to take preventive vaccinations against the virus, stressing that although these vaccines do not prevent infection with the virus, they exhaust it, weaken it and make recovery from it easier, according to Sky News.

And Dr. Wael Safwat, a consultant in general internal medicine and a regional consultant for health awareness in Egypt, explains that since the emergence of the new Corona virus until this moment, more than 5,000 mutations have occurred, but the most severe of them are the “Delta” and “Mo” strains.

Mutants weaken the virus

Safwat added to “Sky News Arabia”: “The emergence of mutant is normal, when the virus is transmitted from one person to another or another body, it loses some proteins, and the virus acquires different characteristics, and then these mutagens may lead to strengthening or weakening the virus.”

He went on to explain: “Not all mutations pose harm or danger, but on the contrary there are mutant ones that weaken the virus, the most famous mutant are Delta and Delta Plus, and the new mutant Mu, announced by the World Health Organization, was discovered since January in Colombia.”

He pointed out that there is a lot of evidence confirming that the “Mo” mutator is resistant to vaccines, but its prevalence rate is generally weak, reaching 1 percent, while its prevalence in Colombia reached 30 percent, considering the matter “a cause for concern.”

He continued: “There is no problem with the effect of the newly created mutations on vaccines, as vaccines are antibodies against 60 or 70 percent of the structure and body of the virus, but the risk of reaching a complete mutation, this means the emergence of a new virus with second proteins, but in general the mutant respond to powerful and effective vaccines.

lower death rates

Regarding the possibilities of deaths for people with chronic diseases and the elderly, Safwat said: “It is possible, but at low rates. The mutations that occurred, including the delta mutant, cause less damage and lack of oxygen, and this may be a result of individuals gaining good immunity, due to repeated infections with the virus, As a person acquires antibodies against him, in addition to increasing precautionary measures… all this has led to a decrease in death rates even among the elderly and those with chronic diseases.”

Safwat called for the necessity of taking vaccinations, continuing with precautionary and preventive measures, and staying away from sources of pollution and infection, with attention to healthy nutrition in order to raise immunity and enhance the body’s ability to confront the virus with all its mutations.

Vaccines…relative protection

In the same context, Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Meguid, a consultant in chest diseases and former director of Abbasid Chest Hospital, explained that not all vaccines prevent infection with the Corona virus, as well as mutants.

He stressed that vaccinations protect the individual from the risk of severe infection with the Corona virus, and facilitate the task of treatment at home and not having to enter the hospital, and this is a very important matter.

And he continued, in exclusive statements to “Sky News Arabia”: “Prevention is always better than treatment. It is very important for a person to protect himself from all sources of infection, and not to fail in precautionary measures, and to stay away from crowds and poorly ventilated places.”

He added, “It is also important to get the available vaccination against the virus, as it does not protect 100 percent of the virus, but it weakens it and makes recovery from it easy compared to those who did not receive the vaccine.”
