German Jurgen Klopp, the former coach of Borussia Dortmund and the current coach of the English football team, Liverpool, was honored with the first edition of the “German-British Friendship Award”, at a ceremony held in Dortmund on Friday evening.
The award is given by the British Chamber of Commerce in Germany, to honor people who promote closer relations between Germany and the United Kingdom.
Klopp received the award from Camino, lead singer of the German rock band “De Tottenhausen”, at a ceremony held at the Dortmund stadium, attended by 300 invited guests.
Speaking about his love for England since he was a child, Klopp said: “It is a wonderful country and wonderful people. I am very proud to be the first to receive the German-British Friendship Award.”
“It’s nice to hear so many things about yourself,” he added, after I spoke about him during the tribute.
Klopp worked in Dortmund for seven years before moving to coach Liverpool in 2015 and led the team in 2020 to winning the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years.
A year earlier, Klopp led Liverpool to the Champions League title, and his contract with the club is supposed to last until June 30, 2024.
