Water is rising in the major rivers of the country including Padma, Jamuna, Brahmaputra and Teesta. As the water of these rivers flowed over the danger zone, different parts of the country including North Bengal were flooded on Friday. As a result, millions of people have been flooded.
The worst situation is in the northern districts. The flood situation in Nilphamari has deteriorated due to the rising water level of the river Teesta in the upper reaches. Water Development Board (Paubo) sources said the Teesta water was flowing at 35 cm above the danger level in the Teesta Barrage area at Doani in Lalmonirhat district at 9am yesterday. About 15 char areas along the river Teesta in East Chhatnai, Khagakharibari, Tepakharibari, Khalisha Chapani, Jhunagach Chapani and Gayabari Union of Dimla upazila of Nilphamari were inundated due to rising water. 10 thousand families have been flooded.
